Minutes ~Executive Board

December 16, 2013


Members Present: Gary Schwoch, Kellen Callesulis, Les Kuesel, Scott Seston, Bill Schutts, Dave Pechmiller, Jim Thompson, Martha Stratton, Chad Mogan, Gary Buss and Len Frank

  1. Old Business:

  1. Webmaster~Tim Pease: Tim Pease was paid, received a check today.

  2. Edward Jones~Schroeder Account: ~ Bridget was very open to naming the trail after Rob. If there are any funds left over, she would like to have them earmarked to the Youth.

  3. New Carpeting on Stairs: Carpet was installed today. They felt that a pad should be put down, so there was an extra cost. The steps cost $500, which is a $100 more than originally thought. They look very nice, and the quiet is an extra bonus.

  4. New Tables and Chairs (16 Tables and 56 Chairs): Bonnie Hagberg was able to purchase the new tables/chairs with the $1500 that was allotted last month

  5. Other ~ none

  1. New Business:

  1. Bar Consultant: Joe Holland is retired from Stout, and taught in the Hospitality department. He is willing to be a consultant and help us with the bar and building.

  2. Bar Manager: Interviewed Nick Houston. He went to River Falls and is transferring to Stout. He was working on the weekend. Felt that he did a good job. A motion was made by Kellen C., to hire Nick at $10 an hour, Len Frank second. Motion Carried.

  3. CD Proposal: It was suggested that we move some funds in our checking account to a CD. With a CD, we are still able to get a hold of funds. Martha Stratton made a motion that $10,000 be put into a CD with the hopes of saving for the new floor, Les Kuesel second. Motion carried. Les Kuessal made a motion to have three people to sign for the CD, and suggested President, Vice President and Treasurer. Chad Mogan Second. Motion Carried.

  4. Trout Unlimited, Bar Open?: Nick is willing to bartend – so Bar will be open during the Event.

  5. Other: Talk about getting the carpet cleaned. Talked about SteamTeam, as they are local. Tabled until after the Ice Fishing Contest. Will check with John Humpal for an estimate.

  6. More Other: Kevin Biggs called to have a Christmas Party with Police, Fire, and Sherriff Department. Is looking at January 12, at 2 p.m. Chad made a motion that they could host the party for free rental, with a $50 custodian fee, Scott Seston second. Motion carried

  7. Top Gun Banquet: Pookie put out the budget for the Banquet. It will be a 1 in 6 chance to win a Henry Golden Boy. This is above the “Top Guns”. The request is being made to make the Top Gun a Standing Committee. Chad Mogan made the request, Scott Seston seconded, Motion carried.

  8. Schedule Next Board Meeting: Monday, January 27, at 5:35 p.m.

Minutes ~General Meeting

    1. Call to Order

    2. Pledge of Allegiance. President Gary Schwoch led the group in the Pledge.

    3. Secretary's Report: Martha Stratton

Motion made by Mike Benzel and seconded by Jerome Evenson to accept the report.

    1. Treasurer's Report: Bill Schutts

Bill said to pat ourselves on the back, as we go into the new year, It is looking like we will be able to start 2014 with more than last year, and we were able to do more this year than in the past. Very positive Treasurer’s report. We still need to get paid back the $5000 that we loaned the bar. Al Finder moved and Mike Benzel seconded a motion to accept the treasurer's report. Motion carried.

    1. Correspondence: Gary Schwoch

Received a thank you from Melody Gossett, for the Plant that was sent to the family on the death of her father, Fred Alf. Thank You from Alex and Logan McNaughton, grandchildren of Rich Leach. Christmas Card from Meyer’s septic and thanks for our business.

    1. Buss Report: Club enjoys a joke, and it is even better if we all pick on Gary Buss.

    2. Executive Committee Report: Gary Schwoch

President Gary Schwoch presented the Executive Committee Report (See Report). The highlights were that Joe Holland has been hired as a Bar Consultant and will be doing the consulting for free. Hired Nick Houston for a Bar Manager. Reminder that Trout Unlimited will be here on Thursday. Have hired Sheri Anderson as the new rental person. Sherie has a degree in Wedding Planning. CD will be moved to Dairy State Bank. Board recommends that the Top Gun become a standing committee. Pookie made a motion to have a standing Committee, Gary Buss seconded, Motion approved the building rentals by the board.

    1. DNR Report: Jim Cleven, Jess Carstens, Chad Mogen

State wide number were down. Part of this was because of the cold. With the Deer Trustee you will see a lot of rule changes. Made five new parking lots. One in Dunnville, should have room for 30 cars. The rest are on the Chippewa River. Question about a survey that was received by one of the members. Survey comes out every year and Jess does not know the amount of the surveys and where/who they are sent out. Jim Cleven put out that it will be legal to use Cross Bows next year. Told about the Shooting in Dunn County. Jim Cleven has been a Game Warden for 25 years. He was presented with a Goose Call, wrapped in toilet paper. There was a leg band on the call, with thanks from the Fish and Game.

    1. Dunn County Alliance Report: Dan Prestebak, Scott Sinz

All the committees have wrapped up for the year. Hoping for the curfew to be lifted on the lake and the purchase of Dobbs landing.

DNR will be delivering some logs. Hole drilling will be, January 4, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. Meet at the clubhouse.

  1. Hunters Against Hunger: Ron Fry

Joel Radke and Ron picked up over 500 lbs of meat from Springbrook. Hoping to get some from Bry’s.

March 6 and July 31 will be the start of the classes for next year.

  1. Ice Fishing Contest: Mike Kistner, Les Kuesel

The posters are here. Tickets are available, see Pookie or Curt Hagbert. Next meeting will be January 6, at 7 p.m. Need help with selling tickets. Fishing Contest is February 8th.

  1. Kitchen: Bonnie Hagberg

Bonnie got 14 round tables and 3 8 ft tables, and 60 chairs. Working this Wednesday morning to put up the new tables. Bonnie says that there are tables to be given away. There are about 8-10 chairs that need to go to the dump. She had a great turn out of help. Bonnie really wants to have the dinners upstairs. It would be really nice having it upstairs. She got linens and burgundy napkins and some pictures. The pictures will be put up. Bonnie currently does not have any help for the Turkey Dinner on February 15 at 5 p.m. Please see Bonnie and sign up for this event. Cupboards are currently on hold. Bonnie made oyster stew and Hot Dish.

Crossbow are now okay as per the new law. The legislature will be meet with the DNR on Wednesday..

Need a new chairman. Wayne will be stepping down. Thank you Wayne for all your hard work.

  1. Pheasant Rearing: Bob Kistner, Scott Seston

Bob Kistner and Scott Seston will also be stepping down. Need new chairman for the Pheasant Project.

Will be talking about Pheasant points.

  1. Rifle Range: Duke Holmberg

The rangeis open but not being plowed out, so it is currently a mess. Wayne Argo passed away. He was a big Pistol Club member.

Balance continuing on an uphill trend. Staying over the $50,000 sustainable amount.

  1. Sunshine/Memorials: Martha Stratton and Dave Moore

Plant was sent to Fred Alf Funeral, Melody Gossett’s Father.

  3. V.O.W. Ice Fishing Event - We have a lot of help. The Football team has committed to help. Have gotten a lot of response from people to bring in vehicles, the latest in technology. Plan to use the Fish and Game members as the coordinators. Please call Bill Schutts if you plan on helping out. The response is unreal. They are thinking that it will be 250-300 veterans. Wounded Warriors don’t care about the donations at this point, but they want the vets taken care of.

    1. New Business:

  1. American Fisheries Society: The Stout Group, Henry, Ryan and Shane presented a talk about getting a grant from the North American Fish Association to try to catalog and survey the type of fish and will be working with the Dunn County Fish and Game Association and local High Schools, Tiffany Creek, Boyceville High School, Gilbert Creek, Menomonie High School, Elk Creek w/Elk Mound High School, and 18 mile With the Colfax High School. If the Grant is approved, the equipment would be owned by the Fish and Game.

  2. Trout Unlimited-December 19, 7 p.m. Bar will be open for the event.

  3. Annual Voting and Upcoming Election of Dunn County Fish and Game Association, Inc vacancies for 2014.
