Dunn County Fish & Game Executive Board Meeting June 23, 2014
Present: Gary Schwoch, Kellen Cassellius, Garrett Sinz, Russ Hitz, Pookie Albrecht, Bill Schutts, Melody Gossett, Dave Pechmiller, Les Kuesel, Jim Thompson, Gary Buss, Jim Cleven, Curt Hagberg
1. Bylaws updated. Latest updates will be emailed (and snail-mailed) to members.
2. Bank changes - no change.
3. Pheasants: looking good, love the hay, low death rate, no pecking. Lights by the doors make a big difference to get birds back into houses. Birds peck on hay instead of each other.
4. Bar report – Garrett Sinz not present yet.
5. Craft show here on Saturday, June 28 from 9am- 3pm. 21 participants at this point. $30 booth space, $5 extra for use of a table. Set up Thursday at 4:30pm.
6. Fair food – Indiana Corn, pork chops, Sprecker’s root beer, root beer floats, malts. Fair dates: Wed, July 23 – Sun July 27. Will borrow a small freezer from Tilli Hotchkiss. Will need a roaster to keep food hot once grilled. Should make a sign saying “Meat purchased at Lammer’s Food Fest.”
Will need to pass around a sign-up sheet for working at food booth and at DNR booth. Will use cash register this year to keep tally at food booth. Serving will begin 4pm Wednesday, 10 am rest of week.
1) Utah Conceal and carry class – Duke Holmberg says there were lots of frustrated people who tried to locate the building to attend class through GPS, as the address shows up at another address. Need to talk with Tim Pease and get this fixed.
2) Special Treasurer’s Report from Bill Schutts. Will look into using some money from the Lifetime Membership fund to pay the bills for July. We are a little short before the fall banquet.
We need to set budgets for committees. The Budget Committee will make recommendations to the Board.
3) We will have another Executive Committee/Board meeting next Monday, June 30 at 5:30pm.
Dunn County Fish & Game Meeting – General Membership June 23, 2014
Call to Order by President Kellen Cassellius
Pledge of Allegiance
Secretary’s Report: Melody Gossett – Minutes were e-mailed within the week of last month’s meeting, but many did not get them. Need to check with Tim Pease. Secretary needs to snail-mail to those who do not have internet access.
Treasurer’s Report: Bill Schutts – special report from Bill Schutts – we have less money in the treasury than thought. How can we clean up our fiscal budget? 1) determine revenue; 2) line-by-line basis, what to approve and not approve. The club has been giving too much money away. We will have lots of money after the Fall Banquet, but until then the monthly bills need to be paid and it costs the club $2,000/ month to keep the doors open. In the past the money flowed in, we were the only venue that offered this sort of set-up for building rentals, we now have 6 competitors. This is a temporary slump, we just have to weather it.
We need to set budgets for committees.
Correspondence: Kellen – Thank you from Heidi Leiffring for scholarship award;
Thank you from Zack Wold – Eagle Scout, set up fishing line depositories around fishing areas;
Thank you from family of Beverly Kistner;
Thank you from Dave Maves for donating to clothing drive.
Executive Committee: Kellen - still working on Bylaws, Kellen will email them to members when complete, has no paper copies right now.
Craft Show - June 28 (Saturday) will be at Fish & Game clubhouse. 21 signed up so far.
Fair Food Booth – Wednesday, July 23 through Sunday, July 27, need people to cook and to serve food. Sign-up sheet going around.
DNR Report: Jim Cleven - mentioned some citations issued to violators.
Dunn County Alliance: Scott Sinz – 11 club members helped to make the June 6 disabled “Sharing Our Resources Day” a huge success. Scott thanked all who helped, and those who brought boats. 35 participants, 15-16 of their helpers. Thanks to the mayor, who changed his plans at the last minute to bring his pontoon.
Dobbs Landing – closing tomorrow, $11,450 short (haven’t gotten confirmation from Sand Mine). We will get a loan to cover this from Credit Union. At 4:30 it should be public land. Had a motion last month to cover the balance with a loan to complete this commitment – it is the tradition of this club: habitat, conservation.
Bar Management: Garrett Sinz – spreadsheets available for viewing, tee shirts are available for sale.
Top Gun Banquet: Len Frank, Pookie Albrecht, Gary Schwoch – next meeting pending.
Building/Grounds: Jim Thompson – lots of Buckthorn around the grounds (invasive species), need to thin it out.
Fall Banquet: Pookie Albrecht – August 16, 2014. Next meeting Monday, June 30 at 7pm.
Rifle Range: Duke Holmberg – Club paid $186 for a push mower for the Range grounds. Utah conceal/carry class was here, however the GPS (when submitting Dunn County Fish& Game Association) shows another address. This may be affecting our other events if people can’t find us by GPS. Lots of hand gun use at the Range.
Fish Cribs: Dave Pechmiller – No Report.
Youth: Jim Cleven – Bullfrog Trout Pond and the Youth fishing event – 116 kids plus parents. Thanks to Scheels, who donated 100 tee shirts and hats. 91 kids caught fish, there 150 trout caught. Next year would like to have this event in 2 nights instead of one, would be a better quality experience for the kids. Having them fish in shifts didn’t work, too much confusion, they didn’t follow it – need to talk to Herbie Radmann about the 2-night idea.
Harmon Chicken Dinners: Bob Delong, Dave Moore – Need workers for tomorrow night. As of 5pm today we have 143 patrons signed up.
Hunters Against Hunger: Ron Fry – No Report.
Hunter’s Education: Duke Holmberg – Classes start July 31st.
Ice Fishing Contest: Les Kuesel – No Report.
Kitchen: Bonnie Hagberg – the kitchen is locked, there is a code to use, only 2 or 3 people will have the code. If you need to use the kitchen you need to have one of these people open it for you. Call Bonnie Hagberg or Nick Huston.
Legislative: Mike Benzel – No Report.
Membership: Kellen Cassellius – $6,637 in membership fund.
Pheasants: New Committee – Bill Schutts –nicest birds we’ve raised in years, we will substantially undershoot our feed budget. Mike Benzel – has been a problem with the water – rust in the pipes clogs them. We have 8 new 5-gallon waterers for brooder houses. Duane Kuester and Al Finder are donating hay for the birds to peck at, it is keeping them content and they are not pecking each other. Will not use blinders this year.
Need to owl-proof the big runs, but without blinders it may not be a problem.
Policy Review Board: Josh Risler – No Report.
Scholarship: Kellen Cassellius – $64,877 minus 2800-paid out for scholarships, paid 10,000 of the 30,000 loan back to club. Balance in Scholarship fund it 52,077.
