Correspondence: Scott: 1. We received a thank-you the Downsville Club for supporting them. 2. We received a thank-you from the representatives of the Natural Resources Board for meeting with them to discuss the Lower Chippewa River Endowment. 3. We received an email detailing the $40,000 donation to the Lower Chippewa River Endowment that brings the total to over $96,000. 4. We received a thank-you from the Veterans for our donation of $200.

Executive Committee Report: Scott: See Board Newsletter

DNR Report: Jim Cleven, Jess Carstens, Chad Mogen: Jim reported two unique stories encountered at work. One related to a guy over-bagging on trout and anther one concerning a lady fishing in her underwear. Of course Jim handled both situations appropriately. He never said where the lady kept her license.

Dunn Country Alliance Report: Dan Prestebak, Scott Sinz:

Wis. Conservation Congress Report: Russ Hitz, Al Marotz, Scott Sinz: The Mackenzie Environmental Center at Poynette (game farm property) is again hosting summer camps designed at getting kids involved in the outdoors. Scott also detailed the winning of a free bear tag by one of our Hunters Ed kids who is also Pearl Holmstadt’s niece (see board report).


Standing/Special Committee Report

Buss Report: Gary had a hard time reading last month’s newsletter. He said it was printed upside down.

  1. Bar Management : Ryan Gondeck: no report

  2. Buildings & Grounds: Ryan Gondeck, Scott Sinz: Kellen Cassellius got our phone lines fixed and changed several burned-out tubes and one ballast. The club will be buying a new weed whip and a four-cart for pheasant feeding.

  3. Chuckwagon: Scott Sinz: Workers pay $9.00 for the meal (our cost). We will be charging tax now.

  4. Dunn County Fair: Ryan Gondeck, Garett Sinz: Planning Mtg: June 6 @ 6:00

  5. Explorer Post 114: Ryan Gondeck, Jim Thompson: Ryan reported we currently have 13 members. Nine came to the soil test farm in Dunn County for their last field trip. Last month the explorers planted 500 trees at the rifle range.

  6. Fall Banquet: Garrett Sinz: Planning Mtg: June 6 @ 6:00 (same as D.C. Fair)

  7. Harmon Chicken Dinners: Bob Delong: Bonnie Hagberg motioned, Bob Delong 2nd, to have “$1.00 Off” coupons available for the June Jack Harmon Chicken Supper. Passed.

  8. Kitchen: Crystal Lee: no report

  9. Membership: Garrett Sinz: Laura Giede is a new lifetime member

  10. Pheasant: Dave Frank: We are having some problems with e.coli ; 134 dead so far. Reminder: To be eligible to receive pheasants a member must: 1.earn at least 60 points. 2. Be involved in a major fundraiser (selling tickets does not count). 3. Work at least one pheasant work meeting before August 1st. 4. Have paid their dues.

  11. Rifle Range: Duke Holmberg, Dave I-Got-A-Gun-Like-That Kraft: Duke reported that the clean-up work day went well. Sixteen members showed up. Four security cameras donated by Con-Agra were installed.

Intermission

  1. Scholarship: Gary Buss: Gary reported the account balance is currently $41,207. This year’s recipient is Alex Wittmershause. He’s a youth hunter’s ed. instructor who is now old enough to be an adult instructor. He’ll be attending UW-Platteville to study Environmental Engineering. Gary reported that the amount of the scholarship has been to $2,000 in an effort to keep it sustainable.

  2. Social Night: Duke Holmberg: June 13th @ 5:00

  3. Sunshine: Scott Sinz: Russ’s brother passed away; flowers were sent. Duke Holmberg’s mother passed away; a memorial will be sent.

  4. Trout Stream Restoration: Gary Buss: no report

  5. Youth: Jim Cleven, Chad Mogen: Jim reminded workers for the Youth Fishing Event at Herbie’s Fish Farm to show up around 4:00 on June 16. For reservations call Bonnie at

235-5402.


Old Business:

    1. Dock & Pavilion @ Wakanda Landing: See Board Report

    2. Vote for new board member: Congratulations go to Pat Lammer

    3. Tree Drop: Gary Buss reported the cemetery board will tour the area of Lake Menomin where the proposed tree drop (fish habitat) may take place on Cemetery Island. If you can help out with a pontoon boat let Gary know. 235-1043.


New Business:

      1. Boating outing PLC June 23 or 28: See Board Report

      2. Paper Recycling: Years ago Doar, Drill & Skow (attorneys in New Richmond) donated about a gazillion reams of office paper to the club that has saved us a lot of money. We only have about one ream left so perhaps we can beat the bushes to see if we can come up with some more.
